Colored pencil on gourds
produces soft, textural shading and detail which cannot be achieved with
any other media. Individual instruction will be provided for beginners
to experienced artists. Students may sketch, or use furnished patterns.
Workshop will be held at the Illinois Valley Yacht and Canoe Club.

theme, placement, perspective, light source(s)
- Palate selection-
color of objects, background
- Building/blending
of color layers for depth, shadows, contrast
- Application techniques
for pencil on gourd surface
- Presentation/stabilization
of the gourd
- Colorfasting and
protection of the completed gourd
Materials needed
- Prismacolor
pencils- White, Canary Yellorw, Orange, Crimson Red, Tuscan Red,
Dark Brown, Dark Green, Spring Green, Black (Students may preorder
pencils for purchase at the workshop @ $1.00 ea. or bring their own).
- Eraser
- Small to medium
cleaned gourd. (Students may preorder gourds for purchase at the
workshop @ $3.00 ea. or bring their own).
****Sharon says that you can
do an alternate colored pencil project if you would like. If so,
bring the drawing on the gourd to the workshop. Trace your drawing
onto your gourd with graphite paper.. black or white. We are meeting
in a beautiful location: The Illinois Valley Yacht and Canoe Club
on the Illinois River. After the class on Saturday you can go swimming
for $3 in the club pool, or continue to work on your project. We
will have the room for the evening as well as the daytime. We may
be able to go on a boat ride as well on Saturday evening. Plans are
in progress. The Saturday noon meal will be with the sailors, a buffet,
and will cost between $8 -$11. Saturday evening we could eat
at the snack bar or preorder a fancier meal that a wedding party is planning.
