| 1. Create a Gourd Drum – This workshop will take the student
step-by-step through the creation of a functional gourd drum. Attention
is paid mainly to construction techniques, with artistic embellishment
a secondary consideration. A gourd, drumhead, string, ring and all necessary
tools will be furnished. Please bring your own dust mask. Let the instructor
know in advance if you wish to use your own gourd so that a properly sized
drumhead can be provided.

| 2. Knotless Netting Collar - Students will learn to use the
Knotless Netting technique to create a collar on a gourd with a neck or
handle. Participants should bring scissors for cutting waxed linen as well
as a gourd that has a neck or handle, cleaned and finished as desired (goose
gourd or lump in neck with a straight neck works great - see the picture
for example). The instructor provides all the necessary supplies (except
the gourd) including; waxed linen thread, a size 18 needle and an instructional
handout (7-page, color step-by-step photos and instructions).

| 3. Faux Copper Lidded Vessel - In this workshop, you will learn
to apply several different colors of paint to achieve an aged copper finish
on a gourd that has been prepared with a clay design. Participants will
also learn one way to put a knob on a gourd lid. An egg gourd will be provided
for you to decorate with clay using freehand techniques and/or cookie cutters.
Each participant will be able to finish the lidded vessel; and weather
permitting, the clay on the egg gourd should be dry enough before the end
of class to apply the faux copper finish to it, also. The instructor is
allergic to scented products and respectfully requests students not to
wear them to class. Participants need bring nothing. The instructor supplies
one (1) copper canyon gourd vessel with lid, prepared clay design, and
knob for the top; one (1) egg gourd and eye screw for an ornament; and
one (1) kit for students to take home which contains: 1 sm. Black paint,
1 sm. Copper paint, 1 sm. Green paint, sandpaper square, sponges, clay
and a tutorial. Glue, brushes, gloves, clear finish, cookie cutters and
tools needed for clay will be available in class for students’ use.

| 4. Mini Huichol Beaded Mask - Students will learn the Huichol
beading technique. You will start with a prepared gourd bowl ready for
beading, learn to apply beads wax, draw on a pattern and embed colorful
seed beads with a beading awl. Participants may chose from several mask
designs. The project is finished with feather accents. The instructor furnishes
all supplies, including a prepared bowl, beads wax, a beading awl, seed
beads, a beading mat, feathers, patterns and instruction sheets.

| 5. Gourd Purse - This purse class uses a canteen gourd from
the Welburn Gourd Farm and is made to last! Learn to make a leather hinge,
add a leather strap and decoupage paper on the outside. Gourds will be
pre-dyed. This could be your gourd heirloom. The instructor furnishes a
gourd, leather, paper, hinges and a button or arrowhead.

| 6. Polymer Clay Leaves - Like to play with polymer clay? We’ll
be making leaf canes in this class that you can use on your gourds or on
gourd jewelry. We will be using pasta machines to blend and condition clay
and build a leaf pattern into it. The instructor furnishes all of the materials
for this class so that each participant makes two leaves.

| 7. Feathers on Gourds - Woodburning & Drawing - Students
will learn to draw or wood burn feathers of various shapes and sizes. The
feathers will work well for decorating bowls, whole gourds, necklaces,
pins, etc. For woodburning, participants should bring a woodburner with
variable temperature control and a skew tip. If you have a favorite feather
to draw, bring it with you. The instructor furnishes ink pens & pencils,
feather samples, a gourd, a gourd shard and written instructions. Two woodburners
will be available for student use during the workshop.

| 8. Tenerife Weaving - The workshop begins with Frank telling
how to clean, measure, cut and drill holes in a gourd. Working with the
gourd supplied, Joyce will instruct you in how to make the web, complete
the weaving and finish the project with beads. The leaders furnish everything,
including: a cleaned gourd that is painted on the inside, polished on the
outside and has the holes already drilled; a complete instruction sheet
with pictures and pattern; string; a needle; beads; and scissors.

| 9. Fern Bowl or Vase - Make a beautiful bowl or vase with a
fern design. Real, pressed ferns are brightened with paint and decoupaged
on the gourd. Other botanicals or natural pictures may also be added.
A tutorial and all materials will be furnished by the instructor, including
a selection of gourd bowls and vases. If you wish, you may bring your own
gourd bowl and instructor will refund $10. Any size or shape will
work or the gourd may be left whole, if desired. Any questions may

| 10. Constructing an Ocean Drum - Students will learn how to
construct an ocean drum using a bowl-shaped portion of a small bushel gourd
and goatskin. Decorating the drum will be taught in another class. Students
must be pre-registered so that a gourd can be prepared for each person.
The leader furnishes all supplies and materials.

| 11. Mini-gourd Necklace - Participants will learn how to select
a mini-gourd and prepare it with a suitable geometric pattern to create
a unique necklace. You are shown how to burn an outline of the pattern
and how to use shading techniques to complete the work. One-on-one experiences
and detailed work in wood burning are emphasized in this class. The experiences
gained in this class are usable in creating larger gourds. A suitable mini-gourd
and all materials are supplied by the instructor. This is a good class
in which to learn basic techniques in wood burning. Participants should
bring any type wood burner that has a variable temperature control unit
and pens with tips similar to the Detail Master 5-A or 10-A pens. Two wood
burning units with pens will be available for loan during the workshop.

| 12. Wild and Funky - This Wild and Funky class uses a pre-dyed
or painted gourd with palm inflorescence coiled on the top. This workshop
is a lot of fun and very easy. The instructor furnishes gourds in various
colors (choose one), palm inflorescence and lacing cord. Participants are
requested to bring scissors or shears.

| 14. Chip-carved Birdhouse or Bowl - Learn to use a U-shaped
wood gouge to carve geometric patterns on a birdhouse or bowl. A variety
of gouges will be available for students to try out and use in class. The
instructor furnishes everything for the completion of a birdhouse or bowl.

| 15. “Modified Rankaku”, Japanese Eggshell Technique - Rankaku
is a Japanese decorative technique using eggshells inlaid in layers of
different colored paints then sanded down to reveal the different layers
of paint color, creating the design. The instructor has modified the technique
to use readily available supplies and less sanding. Learn this unique technique
on a small project then you can later apply it to larger pieces as a decorative
element. The instructor will supply gourd butterfly cutouts, but students
may also bring in their own designs if they wish...keep the detail to a
minimum. The technique also works well with random freeform designs. Students
could also bring in a gourd and do this technique on a small area. Due
to the several layers of paint that need to be applied, and thorough drying
time between layers, shapes that are brought in should be kept small in
order to finish in the time permitted in class. Participants should bring
a hair dryer or heat gun. All other materials (gourd cutout, eggshells,
paints, gold leaf, varnish, paintbrushes, beads, etc.) are furnished by
the instructor.

| 16. Continuous Coiling with Pine Needles - in this workshop,
we will be using a gauge and de-dapped pine needles to do this form of
weaving. This type of rim treatment is very smooth looking when finished,
and adds a completed look to bowls, vases and other cut shapes. The instructor
furnishes all of the materials needed, including the gourd, pine needles,
waxed linen thread, beads, feathers and dry natural materials to finish
off the bowls when done.

| 17. Puzzle Gourd-3 Projects in 1! - Make a puzzle, a shallow
dish with a resist design, and a color sampler, all in one! Lots of learning
and creativity are packed into this class. Make your gourd as simple
or fancy as you wish. We will make a simple resist design on the base (bowl).
Then each puzzle ring will be finished with a different color and labeled
to use as a color sampler for future reference. It is helpful to be able
to use a mini jigsaw. Participants should bring a Martin house gourd that
sets well (available from vendors at the show), a mask or respirator, a
mini jig saw, interior cleaning tools and a hairdryer or heat gun.
All other supplies including inks, resist, brushes, markers, etc. and a
tutorial will be supplied. The instructor will also have a couple mini

18. Collage Gourd - Techniques used in this class have been
used in collage, decoupage, altered art, etc. Whatever you want to
call it, expect to have fun! Color and texture may be added to the gourd
with mulberry paper and other handmade papers. A large assortment of images
will be available in many themes. The words “dream”, “create”, and “enjoy”
will also be available to add, if desired, to create a special message
for yourself or someone else. Once your choice of paper parts have been
added to the gourd, it will be further embellished with a variety of charms,
jewelry, buttons, beads, doodads, etc. This gourd art begs one to look,
feel, and enjoy all sides of it! Other wording can be available by contacting
the instructor in advance: joyjackson@gourdgathering.net. Students must
bring a cleaned, ready-to-craft, medium-sized gourd (6 to 8 inches). A
bowl or vessel is easier to work with (inside finished as desired), but
a whole gourd with a strong stem is also okay. This is a good class to
make use of a less-then-perfect gourd. Participants should also bring small
sharp scissors for detailed paper cutting, if desired. An awl and an x-acto
knife or scalpel are helpful, but the instructor will have some to share.
For a savings of $5.00, students may bring their own 3-D embellishments.
The instructor will provide all necessary supplies except the gourd, including;
an instructional handout, decoupage medium, brushes, Mulberry paper and
other handmade papers, a variety of pre-cut images (including florals,
travel, gardening, Victorian people, the art of Thomas Kinkade, animals,
etc.), 3-D embellishments, hot glue, tacky glue and small hand and power
tools for attaching embellishments.

| 19. Spring Tree - Create a bright and colorful spring tree using
woodburning, coloring with oil pencils, sponging paint and a fun wax technique
to make your gourd unique. You will leave with a complete beautiful spring
tree eager to do more. Students should bring the following supplies: bottle
or birdhouse gourd (cleaned and in natural color - at least 12” tall and
8” wide); variable temperature wood burner with a tip for shading and a
tip for liner work; X-acto knife; mask; paper towels; Q-tips; and cotton
balls. The instructor furnishes a low temperature melting pot, an embossing
tool stylus, sponges, crayola crayons, oil pencils (burnt umber, sienna
brown and yellow orange), pumpkin paint, old jean scrapes, small paper
plates and press and seal.

| 20. Polished and Gilded Gourd With False Bottom - Learn all
the techniques needed to create this look including how to cut, glue and
expertly fit a false bottom to make your gourd sit straight. You will also
learn to prepare your gourd to accept ink dyes evenly, create a satin smooth
finish, center and apply a border pattern, apply metal leafing and protect
the surface with a soft natural finish. Students must bring the following;
a mask, heat tool OR hair dryer, a small paint brush to apply adhesive,
gloves to prevent ink dye stains on hands, a wood burning tool and a Dremel
type tool (if you have one) with a drum sander attachment. The instructor
will have some extra tools for class use, but bringing your own tools helps
keep the class moving. The instructor also supplies a prepared gourd, pre-cut
base and all other supplies needed.

| 21. Twined Gourd Basket with Fringed Top and Flat Base - Several
techniques will be covered in this class to make beautiful gourd baskets.
Students will learn to glue and custom fit a false base and to blend ink
dyes, creating a satin smooth finish. Two patterns will be incorporated
in the twining and participants will also learn to create a fringed rim.
There will be plenty of inspiration to create your own variations. Students
should bring a spray bottle, a pail for soaking material, scissors, a small
towel, a heat tool OR hairdryer and a Dremel-type tool with drum sander
(if you have one). The instructor furnishes prepared gourds and all supplies
needed for class.

| 22. Knotless Netting or Shekerie Mini Gourd Necklace - The student
will have a choice of learning knotless netting or shekerie (not shown
in the photo) as a project. Both techniques are done on a mini gourd using
the same materials in different ways, and can later be translated to larger
gourds. The instructor will supply everything, with lots of color choices.
Do you have favorite small beads or charms? Bring them along. You may also
wish to bring glasses, if necessary, due to the smallness of the project.

| 24. Gourd Workbasket - Participants will make their own, sturdy
workbaskets; learning to drill and add a reed rim and white oak handle.
Beads will be added to embellish the workbasket. The instructor furnishes
the gourd, reed, handle, beads and pattern. Participants are requested

| 29. Fancy Coiling - Participants will learn a very easy method
of coiling using small round reed, fancy yarns and waxed linen thread.
Beads will be added to complete the project. The instructor furnishes a
gourd, reed, yarns, waxed linen thread and a pattern. Assorted colors will
be offered. Participants are requested to bring scissors. The class is
relaxing and fun.

| 30. Crazy Horse Hair Faux Pottery on a Gourd - Students will
learn how to do something totally unexpected to create the look of Horse
Hair Faux Pottery on a gourd. This new technique can also be use to create
the look of marble. The project involves spraying the gourd. Please bring
a dust mask and an opened gourd, clean and ready for artwork. All other
supplies for the workshop are provided by the instructor.

will use acrylic paint to decorate the ocean drum constructed in Friday’s

| 32. Hawaiian Quilt Patterns on a Gourd - Students use the masking
tape method of pattern transfer on a pre-marked cannonball gourd. The class
will use fine-line burning and shading techniques to cover the gourd’s
surface with a variety of Hawaiian quilt patterns. Students are helped
through each step with ample demonstrations and one-on-one guidance. Because
of time limits, only one pattern may be completed within the class period.
Class members who are experienced at wood burning may proceed to other
patterns. Since the student is expected to finish the whole gourd at home,
many opportunities will be available to copy all other patterns using the
supplies available to the class. You might want to try traditional American
quilt patterns on a gourd later. Participants should bring any type wood
burner that has a variable temperature control unit and pens with tips
similar to the Detail Master 5-A or 10-A pens. Two wood burning units with
pens will be available for loan during the workshop. The instructor furnishes

| 34. Clay Heads - Learn how to create heads and faces out of
clay. These beautifully crafted 3-dimensional heads and faces can be added
to or done directly on gourds. You can use this technique to create heads
for a variety of projects, from old world Santa to beautiful dolls. We
will be constructing a 3 dimensional Santa head from scratch, including
eyes. Heads can be added to a body crafted from a gourd. Students should
bring a small liner and a small angled shading brush. If you choose to
use a gourd for the base, egg gourds will be provided by the instructor.
The instructor also furnishes clay, paint, a pattern packet with easy to
follow instructions, a clay tool, a dowel rod and any additional supplies.

very own gourd drum in this fun, four-hour class. You will learn how to
use rawhide and lacing to make your own drumhead. The instructor furnishes

38. Collage Gourd - Techniques used in this class have been
used in collage, decoupage, altered art, etc. Whatever you want to
call it, expect to have fun! Color and texture may be added to the gourd
with mulberry paper and other handmade papers. A large assortment of images
will be available in many themes. The words “dream”, “create”, and “enjoy”
will also be available to add, if desired, to create a special message
for yourself or someone else. Once your choice of paper parts have been
added to the gourd, it will be further embellished with a variety of charms,
jewelry, buttons, beads, doodads, etc. This gourd art begs one to look,
feel, and enjoy all sides of it! Other wording can be available by contacting
the instructor in advance: joyjackson@gourdgathering.net. Students must
bring a cleaned, ready-to-craft, medium-sized gourd (6 to 8 inches). A
bowl or vessel is easier to work with (inside finished as desired), but
a whole gourd with a strong stem is also okay. This is a good class to
make use of a less-then-perfect gourd. Participants should also bring small
sharp scissors for detailed paper cutting, if desired. An awl and an x-acto
knife or scalpel are helpful, but the instructor will have some to share.
For a savings of $5.00, students may bring their own 3-D embellishments.
The instructor will provide all necessary supplies except the gourd, including;
an instructional handout, decoupage medium, brushes, Mulberry paper and
other handmade papers, a variety of pre-cut images (including florals,
travel, gardening, Victorian people, the art of Thomas Kinkade, animals,
etc.), 3-D embellishments, hot glue, tacky glue and small hand and power
tools for attaching embellishments.

| 39. Southwest Sunburst - Student of this class can expect to
learn creative and wax designs using bright and colorful wax on their gourds.
This class will teach participants how to use the Mini Toppers (circular
designs) as well as free hand designs. The class is fun and encourages
individual imagination. By the end of the class, the student can expect
to have a "one of a kind" circular designed gourd of which any gourd artist
would be proud. Students should bring a round gourd bowl (8” to 9” diameter,
cleaned inside and out) with a 4” diameter opening in the top. The gourd
should be dyed bright red before coming to class. Students should also
bring an X-acto knife, paper towels, cotton balls and Q-tips. The instructor
furnishes a low temperature melting pot, an embossing tool stylus, crayola
crayons, a wax design tool, charcoal pencils and mini toppers (circular
designs).

| 40. Clay Heads - Learn how to create heads and faces out of
clay. These beautifully crafted 3-dimensional heads and faces can be added
to or done directly on gourds. You can use this technique to create heads
for a variety of projects, from old world Santa to beautiful dolls. We
will be constructing a 3 dimensional Santa head from scratch, including
eyes. Heads can be added to a body crafted from a gourd. Students should
bring a small liner and a small angled shading brush. If you choose to
use a gourd for the base, egg gourds will be provided by the instructor.
The instructor also furnishes clay, paint, a pattern packet with easy to
follow instructions, a clay tool, a dowel rod and any additional supplies.

| 41. Faux Copper Lidded Vessel - In this workshop, you will learn
to apply several different colors of paint to achieve an aged copper finish
on a gourd that has been prepared with a clay design. Participants will
also learn one way to put a knob on a gourd lid. An egg gourd will be provided
for you to decorate with clay using freehand techniques and/or cookie cutters.
Each participant will be able to finish the lidded vessel; and weather
permitting, the clay on the egg gourd should be dry enough before the end
of class to apply the faux copper finish to it, also. The instructor is

| 42. Luffa Gourd Soap and Earrings - This is an easy, fun class
where you will learn all about luffa gourds and make unique gifts, too.
You will make a bar of luffa soap with you choice of color and fragrance.
The luffa inside acts like a scrubbing sponge, which makes this soap especially
good for gardeners and gourders. While the soap cures, you will make a
pair of earrings from the beautiful black luffa seeds. Additional ideas
will be discussed and shown to spark your own creativity. All materials
and a handout sheet are furnished.

| 43. Hand Carved Gourd Flowers - Got scraps of gourds and don’t
know what to do with them? Well, here is something you can carve out of
part of them, gourd flowers. You will learn how to hand carve a dogwood
blossom in class and see what else you can do with your gouges and knives.
The instructor furnishes gourd pieces, u-shaped gouges, patterns and band-aids,
if needed. Participants should bring an x-acto knife or other carving knife
with a straight blade.

| 44. Cane on Gourd - This project begins by inserting reed spokes
into the gourd and then learning an easy over/under weave. A three-part
rim border completes the top. A flower and sea grass embellishments may

learn how to do something totally unexpected to create the look of Horse

| 46. Fall Tree - Fall is in the air. You can feel it in this
fall tree using wood burning, coloring with oil pencils, sponging paint
and a fun wax technique used to make your background texture and your wonderful
fall leaves. You will leave with a complete beautiful fall tree, learning
how to change colors to make any fall tree you can imagine. Students should
bring the following supplies: bottle or birdhouse gourd (cleaned and in
natural color - at least 10” tall and 7” wide); variable temperature wood
burner with a tip for shading and a tip for liner work; X-acto knife; mask;
paper towels; Q-tips; and cotton balls. The instructor furnishes a low
temperature melting pot, a texture brush, a melting pot insert, an embossing
tool stylus, sponges, crayola crayons, oil pencils (burnt umber, sienna

| 47. Old Barn on a Medium Gourd - Paint an old barn on a gourd
to look like it is done in watercolors. Students should bring a medium-size,
cleaned Martin House gourd with a flat bottom (so that it will sit upright);
a fine line black or brown micro pen (not a Sharpie marker); and paint
brushes (a 10/0 script liner and a 10 and 12 flat).

| 48. Knotless Netting Collar - Students will learn to use the
Knotless Netting technique to create a collar on a gourd with a neck or
handle. Participants should bring scissors for cutting waxed linen as well
as a gourd that has a neck or handle, cleaned and finished as desired (goose
gourd or lump in neck with a straight neck works great - see the picture
for example). The instructor provides all the necessary supplies (except
the gourd) including; waxed linen thread, a size 18 needle and an instructional
handout (7-page, color step-by-step photos and instructions).

| 49. Vase With Textured Inset - Learn all the techniques needed
to create this vase including how to expertly fit and glue a flat bottom
on your gourd. Students will also learn how to prepare the gourd to evenly
accept ink dyes, create a satin smooth surface, apply a textured pattern
using a stencil and embellish and highlight with paint and waxes. Students
must bring a mask, a heat tool OR hairdryer, a wood burner and a Dremel
type rotary tool with a drum sander (if you have one). The instructor will
have some extra tools for class use, but bringing your own tools helps
keep the class moving. Students should also bring gloves to protect their
hands from being stained. The instructor brings all other supplies including
prepared gourds.
