Call for Gourd Artists
2012 Las Cruces Glorious Gourd Celebration
Las Cruces is excited to announce our Glorious Gourd Celebration which will be located at the Greenworks Building, 125 N. Main St, on the Downtown Mall October 5-7, 2012.
The Celebration will run in conjunction with the October Art Ramble on Friday evening and the Downtown Farmers and Craft Market on Saturday morning – both draw lots of people. Saturday afternoon and Sunday are reserved for a variety of classes. During the Art Ramble, refreshments will be provided.
Exhibitors are invited to submit an application by July 31, 2012. Applications may be mailed or digital images can be emailed to the contacts listed below. All art exhibited must be handcrafted by the artist(s) and exhibitors must be present for the entire show Friday evening and Saturday until 12:00.
Exhibit spaces and cost to exhibit gourd art during the Celebration are:
8” x 8’ Single Artist $75.00 8’ x 8’ Two Artists Sharing the Space $125.00
10’ x 10’ Single Artist $100 10’ x 10’ Two Artists sharing the space $150.00
There are a very limited number of 10’ x 10’ spaces available and will be assigned on a first-come-first-served basis. Artists are responsible for their own space dividers, if desired. The floor will be marked to indicate the spaces.
For those artists who do not have a sufficient number of gourd art pieces or who do not feel comfortable doing a solo exhibit, an exhibit space will be available featuring a collection of pieces by multiple artists. Artists may apply to enter up to three (3) pieces for display in this area and should complete the attached application describing the two pieces and submitting photographs or digital images with their application form. Check the box entitled: Collection Application. The cost to exhibit is this area of the Celebration is:
$10.00 Single piece entered
$15.00 Two pieces entered.
$20.00 Three pieces entered.
A very limited amount of electricity is available for exhibit spaces.
All exhibitors are responsible for collecting and paying state, city sales tax.
In addition to the general exhibition, each artist accepted into the Celebration can enter one (1) piece of their choosing into a competition. Two categories of awards will be given during the competition:
Throughout the Art Ramble and the Saturday market members of the public will be provided with a ballot and asked for vote in the People’s Choice competition. At the close of the market, the ballots will be tallied and awards will be presented.
Saturday, beginning at 8:00 a.m. community art volunteers will conduct professional judging of work entered into the competition. During the judging, the competition area will be closed to everyone except the judges and their assistants. The decisions of the judges will be final.
For the competition, entry tags will be provided at check-in and must be attached to your competition entry. The entry tags will not display the artist’s name. After judging is completed, the exhibitor’s name will be displayed. Business cards will not be allowed during the competition; however, after judging is completed, vendor may put booth number on exhibitor tag.
All exhibits, ribbons, and entry tags must remain in place until the end of the show, 4 p.m., Saturday, October 06, 2012.
Ribbons and cash awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for both the professional judging and for the People’s Choice as determined by the judges and by the public ballots.

I release, agree to indemnify, and forever hold harmless Greenworks, its agents, members, officers and the Celebration organizers from any actions, suits, damages, claims, third-party claims or judgment of any kind that may result from property loss, damage or personal injury sustained by me or anyone else as a result of my participation in the Gourd Celebration. I understand there will be no refunds of my application fee after August 1, 2012.
