Jim Story Award: Multiple Inseparable Manipulated Gourds

Growing and Manipulation Techniques. For starters I found two gourds that bloomed the same day and moved the vines so they were next to each other. Using panty hose stockings, I cut each leg off and cut a hole large enough to put the ball of the gourd through into the toe. I used the stockings to pull the gourds gently around each other, tying off to maintain tension. I changed the ties at least twice a day and tried to keep them equal to keep it straight.
Challenges. In a manipulation like this you have to find two gourds that bloom the same day so one doesn’t outgrow the other. I’ve had dipper gourds grow 5 inches in 24 hours. If they aren’t exactly the same age the older one with break the younger.
